art and craft

Mostly inspired by the sea, my work is an eclectic mix including paintings of local scenery, beachcomber collages, hand-decorated stones, quirky knitted jewellery and much more. The following are just a few examples.

painting
Local scenery in acrylics and pastels. (This one is St Helens Fort as seen from my beach hut). Also some still life - mostly fruit.

'turnstones'
I love the feel of smooth, rounded pebbles. I like to write on them in such a way that you have to turn them over and over in your hand to read them.

Mostly I write strange facts taken from old seaside nature books, one of my favourites being, "Only when its home groove is destroyed with a hammer and chisel does a limpet begin to look lost and unhappy".

(I will gladly write your own personal message on a stone).

collage
Who can resist picking up strange and interesting objects from the beach? I can't bear to leave them behind so I make them into beachcomber collages.

jewellery
I knit (yes, knit) unusual bangles and rings with wool and sometimes with silver wire.

All my knitted jewellery incorporates at least a few of my precious vintage buttons, which I collect obsessively!

address: 04 Railway Carriage Beach Huts, St Helens Duver, Isle of Wight PO33 1YB

directions: From St Helens Green, follow the signs for the 'Baywatch Beach Cafe'. Buy yourself a big ice cream and stroll with it along the promenade. I'll be happily ensconced in the first hut in the first railway carriage you come to.

(I'm often there on sunny days, and even not-so-sunny ones. Feel free to peek in if you're passing).
